Create a Legacy is rooted in a simple belief: people matter. For more than a century, the monument companies that now form our family have been honored to serve communities across Minnesota—helping families preserve stories, celebrate lives, and create lasting places of remembrance.
Stone craftsmanship has always been at the heart of our work. Over the decades, skilled artisans and dedicated leaders shaped not only granite—but a reputation built on quality, integrity, and service.
What began in 1898 with Little Falls Granite Works has grown into a trusted network that includes Murphy Granite in Richmond, Hibbing Monument in Hibbing, and Duluth Monument in Duluth. Though each location has its own history and personality, they are united by a shared mission: creating everlasting stories in stone for people who matter, by people who care.
In the 1960s, Ron Nagel and Ray Calhoun helped guide the company into a new era of growth. In 2005, their sons—Todd Nagel, Scott Nagel, and Don Calhoun—continued that legacy, strengthening operations while preserving the care and compassion families had come to trust.

As the company expanded, so did its responsibility. In 2016, leadership made a pivotal decision to invest in growth—not just in scale, but in culture. By strengthening systems, embracing innovation, and focusing deeply on people, the organization renewed its commitment to excellence from the inside out.
Today, Create a Legacy in Stone is led by Todd Nagel (Chairman), Josh Willenbring (President) and Brandon Drontle (Chief Financial Officer), alongside a dedicated leadership team and more than 40 full-time team members supported by over 150 Authorized Memorial Consultants.
Each year, we are honored to serve thousands of families—walking alongside them during some of life’s most meaningful moments.

Like the granite we shape, our legacy is built to endure. But what truly defines our history isn’t stone—it’s the families who trusted us, the stories we’ve been honored to tell, and the people who continue to care deeply about doing this work well.
We are not simply craftsmen.
We are storytellers.
Guardians of memory.
Architects of enduring legacies.
